Barcelona guide
To escape the snowy Luxembourg for a week, my ladies and I decided to move towards south-western Europe during the first month of 2015. Barcelona was a spontaneous choice as we needed to take an urgent last-minute decision. The weather here is cool in January, don't even think to bring your swimsuit. We spent a week over here and hunted awesome places while avoiding touristic stuff. Here are my favourite discoveries we made during the last week to have breakfast, brunch, lunch or a just drink.
The best avocado toasts and smoothies of Barcelona are made in the Federal Cafe. I love the fresh and modern atmosphere of the café. People work on their tablets or read fashion magazines while having brunch and drinking coffee. I could sit here all day long...
Federal Café. Carrer del Parlament, 39, 08015 Barcelona
Someone spotted me at the playa...
The Cosmo Galeria is a café full of art! It's the most colourful and inspiring place to drink coffee and enjoy the dessert I've ever seen in my life. Artists paint live on the walls, paper swans surround your heads and red velvet cakes make you crazy. My absolute favourite drink - their Baileys Iced Frappé, delicious. The terrace looks like a little corner in the Amazonas - cute. Not to miss.
Cosmo. Carrer Enric Granados, 3, 08007 Barcelona
Carabela, a cocktail bar with the name of the ships Columbus used to travel. Last time we went to BCN we spent the whole week over here. Our ritual - strawberry mojitos and a nacho plate with salsa, guacamole and jalapeños and the whole thing in the sun under huge palms. The bar owner comes from the UK and opened this cool place that we discovered some years ago and still love.
Carabela Café. Pas de Sota Muralla, 3, 08003 Barcelona
Spontaneous shootings on our balcony with the girls..
Brunch and Cake - a very girlie place to have brunch (make reservations on Sunday!!). Lovely fruit salads, yoghurts and cakes but also burgers and salads are on the menu. The stuff is adorable. (best service of the week). I'm impressed by their positive energy! Fresh flowers seem to be a trend in Barcelona cafés.
Brunch and Cake. Carrer Enric Granados, 145, 08008 Barcelona
Origens is small restaurant in the Passeig El Borne. They use organic products! I went totally mad when I saw the menu. I've never seen a graphic-design-magazine-like menu! As you can see in the pictures, they use inforgraphics to illustrate the ingredients of the food - a m a z i n g. We could keep the menus hehe. The food was delicious. I tried the organic stuffed apple with minced meat of lamb and beef and I loved it.
Origens. Passeig del Born, 4, 08003 Barcelona
The Satan's coffee corner is well hidden but easy to find! Apparently the best coffee of Barcelona. If you're into hipster stuff - come over, you won't find a more hipster-like café in the Gothic corner. I love their home made croissants, the hot chocolate is not the best one I've ever drunk. I love the metal head mug.
Satan's Coffee Corner. Carrer de l'Arc de Sant Ramon del Call, 11 08002 Barcelona
El Cercle, a museum and restaurant. The terrace is on the rooftop, you can enjoy the sunshine and watch the passers-by in the street. Our first sushi in Spain - yummi! A very elegant and romantic place... A refaire!
El Cerle. Carrer dels Arcs, 5, 08002 Barcelona
Granja Petitbo - my favourite place for lunch. The small room has a high ceiling, a huge map on the wall and hanging lamps, a restaurant with personality! The burger was amazing (made with organic products!) and the potatoes too!
Granja Petitbo. Passeig de Sant Joan, 82, 08009 Barcelona
La tête.. quiet weird café....small, dark, full of...stuff..! and a menu with 75 different teas. But weird is always a good idea. If you want a quiet tête à tête with your valentine - come and drink a cup of tea. The weird guy over here offers cakes and tapas as well but we didn't have the chance to taste them because he forgot us. haha :)
La Tête. Carrer de la Comtessa de Sobradiel, 4, 08002 Barcelona
This crazy bird is Soravit - a promising fashion photographer living in Barcelona. Follow him on instagram!
Nr. 9 is a cocktail and tapas bar you shouldn't miss to start your night. Bring your ID if you look like 16. The cheese plate was very tasty but expensive at the same time. Locals from different scenes come together to celebrate the start into the night.
Numeronueve. Carrer de la Vidrieria, 9, 08003 Barcelona
Schilling - touristic but so lovely! I love light decoration! We came here for the digestive and late night dessert. The tapas here are too expensive, I recommend you another restaurant for the tapas (scroll down...).
Schilling. Carrer de Ferran, 23, 08002 Barcelona
Our new friends, among them - Joy (thank you darling for taking us here!!) brought us to the Cerveceria Catalana restaurant. Quality tapas for a low price! Try everything out! Fried artichokes, iberico ham, patatas bravas... yummi! The cool thing is that people eat very late in Spain, so don't worry - you're never late to go for dinner. Here is the secret address: Carrer de Mallorca, 236, 08008 Barcelona
Discovering light in the middle of darkness. The narrow alleys lead to sunny little yards, doesn't it look lovely?
